Sorrento,
Fla. – The
Georgia State women's golf team wrapped up day two of competition at the UCF
Challenge in Sorrento, Fla. in 16th place. After opening with an
11-over 299, the squad fired a 315 (+27) during the second round on the par 72,
6,319 yard Red Tail Golf Club.
The Panthers struggled through day two along
with the bulk of the 17-team field, as only two teams managed to improve upon
their round-one scores. Georgia State enters the final round with a combined
team score of 614, six strokes behind 15th-ranked Memphis.
Junior Charlotte Lorentzen led the team once
again, collecting three birdies to card a 5-over 77. The Soroe, Denmark native
completed the second 18 holes with a share of 34th place.
Junior Charlotte Guilleux and freshman Laura
Sanchez both finished the day in a tie for 57th place. The pair
fired a 7-over 79 and 8-over 80, respectively.
Freshman Solveig Helgesen also fired a
7-over 79 and sits in a tie for 74th place. Redshirt-junior
Cherishton Brett shot a 92 to wrap up the second round in 90th
place.
After ending the first day's competition in
second place, Coastal Carolina took over the top spot on the leader board with
a 289 (+1) on the day and a score of 2-under 574 entering into the final round.
With the lowest round of the day, No. 35 South Carolina jumped eight spots to
claim second-place, shooting a 4-under 284. The Gamecocks go into day three, four
strokes behind leader Coastal Carolina with a score of 578 (+2). The first-round's
leader, No. 14 Tulane, dropped to third place after a 7-over round of 295.
Coastal Carolina's Jessica Alexander held
onto first place in individual competition, firing a 3-under 69. Ashley
Albrecht of Kentucky dropped to second place, carding a 2-under 70. Tulane's
Ashley McKenny jumped from a tie for sixth place to claim the third position,
shooting a 4-under 68 on the day.
Final
round competition will begin on Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live stats are available
