Lorentzen Wins UNCG Starmount Fall Classic

Greensboro, N.C. - Sparked by a first-place finish from Charlotte Lorentzen and a hole in one from Charlotte Guilleux, the Georgia State women's golf team shot a final round 308 Tuesday to finish tied for fifth place with 921 (+69) at the UNCG Starmount  Fall Classic.

Lorentzen took over the top spot during Monday's second round after firing a 2-under 69. The senior from Soroe, Denmark remained at the top of the leaderboard throughout the final round of competition to capture her first win of the season and the second of her career. Lorentzen ran into some trouble on the front nine with three bogeys but maintained even par on the back nine to finish 3-over on the day and take individual medalist honors with a three stroke margin of victory.

After shooting even on holes one and two, Guilleux landed her hole in one at No. 3 to represent the first of her career and the first for Georgia State in three years. The last Panther to score a hole in one was Sandra Maier at the 2010 SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational.  Following her ace on the third hole, Guilleux completed the day at 4-over 75 to finish in a tie for 14th place at 15-over.

"Today we had some great things happen for our two seniors," said head coach Cathy Mant. "In addition to Charlotte Lorentzen's first place finish and Charlotte Guilleux's hole in one, everybody drove the ball really well throughout the entire day. The greens did play more difficult today and we struggled a bit with our putting."

Freshman Lauren Court ended the day on a strong note with a birdie on the par five eighteenth hole. The newcomer from Lawrenceville, Ga. shot 9-over 80 during the third round to finish 22-over with a share of 25th place.

Sophomore Laura Sanchez carded her best round of the tournament during day three with an 8-over 79. The Bogota, Colombia native finished the event with a share of 45th place at 29-over. Sophomore Solveig Helgesen shot a final round 10-over 81 to conclude competition in 51st place.

"This tournament gave us a great chance to see what to work on and where we need to go from here," commented Mant. "If we can improve our short game and nail that down, I think we'll be post some really great scores in our upcoming tournaments."

Maryland retook the top spot with a 6-over 290 performance in the final round to finish at 901 (+49). The Terrapins captured the team title by seven strokes over East Tennessee State. Host UNCG took third place at 917 (+65) followed by Campbell in fourth at 920 (+68) and Furman and Georgia State tied for fifth at 921.

The Panthers return to North Carolina next week to compete in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville beginning Monday, Oct. 10.
