Greensboro, N.C - A 2-under 69 pushed senior Charlotte Lorentzen into first place while the Georgia State women's golf team maintained its No. 5 spot during day two at the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic Monday.
The Panthers improved their day one score by one stroke, carding a second-round 306 and stand seven strokes off the lead. The field of 14 teams will conclude competition with 18 holes Tuesday at the par-71 Starmount Country Club.
Lorentzen impressed during the second round, recording the best score of the day by three strokes. With two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine, Lorentzen made the turn at even par. The Soroe, Denmark native then landed four birdies on the back nine including consecutive 1-under shots on holes 16 and 17 to finish the day at 2-under. Lorentzen enters Tuesday's final round in the top spot with a two stroke advantage over second place.
Senior Charlotte Guilleux fired 79 on the day and stands in a tie for 13th place at 11-over.
Freshman Lauren Court shot 7-over 79 during day two and shares 20th place at 13-over heading into the third round. The newcomer from Lawrenceville, Ga. rebounded from a double bogey on the par-4 sixth hole to birdie No. 7.
Sophomore Solveig Helgesen bettered her opening round score by two strokes to shoot 80 on Monday. She stands in a tie for 47th place at 20-over with 18 holes to play. Rounding out the Panthers is sophomore Laura Sanchez who recorded a second round 82 and is tied for 53rd place at 21-over.
East Tennessee State carded a 302 to take over the top spot at 606 (+38). Maryland dropped into second place after a second round 308 and trails the lead by five strokes. Host UNCG and Furman share third place at 612 (+44) followed by Georgia State at 613 (+45).
In individual competition, UNCG's Fanny Chops and Furman's Alexa Rancourt trail Lorentzen by two strokes and share second place at 4-over. Mayte Vizcarrondo (East Tennessee State) sits in fourth place at 6-over followed by Nicole Sakamoto (James Madison) at 7-over in fifth.
