Greenville, S.C. - Seniors Charlotte Guilleux and Charlotte Lorentzen led the way with opening round 77's as the Georgia State women's golf team completed day one of the Lady Paladin Invitational in second place. On a day in which the 15-team field fought through windy and drizzly weather conditions, the Panthers shot 314 (+26) to enter the second round six strokes off the lead.
With only five bogeys blemishing her otherwise even-par scorecard, Guilleux finished the first round with 5-over 77. Lorentzen collected three birdies throughout her 18 holes to also finish the day at 5-over. The duo stands just two shots back from the leader in a tie for third place.
Teeing off the tenth, freshman Lauren Court ended her day at the links on a high note with a birdie on No. 9. The newcomer from Lawrenceville, Ga. finished her round at 78 (+6) with a share of 17th place entering the second 18 holes.
Sophomore Solveig Helgesen recorded birdies on holes No. 6 and 15 to shoot 82 (+10) and stands in a tie for 40th place. Fellow sophomore Laura Sanchez carded an opening round 84 (+12) and shares 54th place heading into day two.
No. 81 East Tennessee State leads the field after shooting an opening round 308. In second place, No. 58 Georgia State holds a one shot lead over No. 80 South Florida at 315 followed by Samford (316) and No. 76 Longwood (317) in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
In individual competition, East Tennessee State's Sian Evans currently holds the top spot at 3-over. Natalie Mitchell of Samford stands in second place at 4-over followed by Guilleux and Lorentzen amid a 14-way tie for third place.
