Greensboro, N.C. - Senior Charlotte Guilleux fired an opening round 74 to lead the Georgia State women's golf team to fifth place after day one of the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic hosted by UNC-Greensboro. The Panthers shot 307 Sunday at Starmount Country Club, an 81-year old, par 71 course on the west side of Greensboro.
Guilleux landed birdies on holes seven and 10 to finish the first round of competition in a tie for fifth place. Her score of 3-over 74 puts the St. Maur de Fosses, France native three strokes back from the lead entering Monday's second round.
Senior Charlotte Lorentzen shot 4-over 75 on the day to finish the opening round with a share of seventh place.
Freshman Lauren Court landed a birdie on the par-4 ninth hole to shoot 37 on the opening nine. The newcomer from Lawrenceville, Ga. finished the round at 4-over 77 and stands in a tie for 15th place.
Sophomore Laura Sanchez posted an 81 on her first round scorecard and shares 41st place. Fellow sophomore Solveig Helgesen rounded out the five-person line-up and shot an opening day 82 to stand in a tie for 52nd with 36 holes to play.
Shooting 303, Maryland holds the top spot with a one-stroke lead over host UNCG and East Tennessee State. Furman stands in fourth place after an opening round 306, followed by Georgia State in fifth.
Furman's Alexa Rancourt leads individual competition after posting an even round 71. Rancourt leads by one stroke over of group of three golfers at 1-over par, including Winthrop's Kayla Cline, UNCG's Fanny Chops and East Tennessee State's Mayte Vizcarrondo.
The Panthers continue competition with 18 holes Monday and tee off the first tee beginning at 9:15 a.m. with James Madison and Furman.
