ATLANTA, Ga. -- Audrey Mason drove in two runs, including a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Georgia State defeated Drexel, 3-2, in game one of a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader Saturday at Bob Heck Field. In game two, senior co-captain Lauren Fetters went 3-for-3 with a homer to lead the Panthers to the series sweep over the Dragons, 4-1.
Danielle Roddy went 5-for-6 on the day with three runs scored to pace the Panthers.
The Panthers (24-11, 5-1 CAA) return to action Wednesday, April 7 when they travel to Furman for a non-conference doubleheader that is set to begin at 3 p.m.
Game One - Georgia State 3, Drexel 2
With the Panthers (23-11, 4-1) trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning, Mason delivered a two-out single to right center to drive in Roddy. Cassie Boese was thrown out at the plate trying to score from first, but GSU tied the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Georgia State loaded the bases with no outs on consecutive singles by Paige Nowacki, Roddy and Boese, and then Mason hit an infield single to the left side, scoring pinch-runner Emily Whitaker with the winning run.
It was Mason's fourth game-winning RBI of the season.
Leading the way for the Panthers was Boese, who went 4-for-4. Mason went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Roddy went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Downes was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.
Thomas (7-2) earned the win pitching three innings of two-hit relief, while striking out three. Katrina Gaudier (2-4) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits, while striking six Panther batters.
The Panthers got on board first scoring a single run in the first inning on several Dragon miscues. After Roddy walked and Boese beat out a throw at first, both Audrey Mason and Lauren Jones reached on errors, scoring Roddy.
The Dragons answered back with a single run in the third when Kelly Downes singled to right center, scoring Amanda Bachmann. However, Lowry controled the damage by striking out the next two batters and fielding a grounder to end the inning.
After Lowry gave up a walk and a single to open the fifth inning, Thomas came in and promptly recorded two outs. However, a Ashley Botelho single to left field scored Katy Harrington to give Drexel a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom half of the inning.
Game Two - Georgia State 4, Drexel 1
Fetters went 3-for-3 with a homer and freshman pitcher McCall Langford threw a complete-game three hitter as the Panthers completed the series sweep of Drexel with a 4-1 victory in game two.
Langford (9-1) who struck out the first three batters of the game and carried a no-hitter through five, finished the game allowing only a single run on three hits.
The Panthers again scored the first run of the game after a Lauren Jones' ground out plated Roddy. In the third, Cunningham singled to left field to score Lauren Jones. Fetters second-career homer in the fourth and a Paige Nowacki single, scoring Fetters, provided the final margin.
Suffering the loss for Drexel was Allen (4-4), who allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits.
Roddy went 3-for-3 with a run scored in the game, and now sits one run back from tying Corrie Roberts (151) for the most runs scored in Panthers' history.
