Women's Tennis Falls in Semifinals to #2 seed, 4-0

Norfolk, Va. – The women's tennis (6-12) fell to the #2 seed William & Mary, 4-0, in the semifinals of the 2010 CAA championship at the Folks-Stevens Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The match started with the Panthers losing two of the three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. William & Mary took an early 1-0 lead thanks to wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 1 doubles, the match went unfinished after the team of Katerina Gresova/Tereza Lerova were winning, 6-5.

In singles play the Tribe gained another point at No. 6 singles when Lindsay Hearn fell to Anik Cepeda, 6-0, 6-0. William & Mary went up 2-0 thanks to the victory.

At No. 5 singles, sophomore Linda Hricistova lost in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, to Katie Kargl.

William & Mary clinched the match after winning at No. 3 singles when Katerina Gresova lost in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Two matches did go unfinished but the Panthers were winning in both of them. At No. 4 singles, freshman Tereza Lerova won the first set, 6-4, and was winning the second set, 6-5.

Sophomore Diana Nakic, ranked No. 25 nationally, also went unfinished after winning the first set, 6-2, and leading the second, 4-2. Nakic finishes the season with an undefeated record of 17-0 and tied the school record for wins in a season. She shares the honor with Lisa Teer, who set the mark back in 1989.

“It was a tough match for us today against a really solid William & Mary team. After we lost the doubles point, it put us in a tough position that we just couldn't find back against. Tereza (Lerova) and Diana (Nakic) played really well but we just couldn't step up at the other positions in the lineup,” said head coach Miha Lisac.

After a season of ups and downs, the Panthers will finish the season in the top three of the Colonial Athletic Association.
