GSU Tennis Takes Care of Delaware, 6-1

Towson, Md. - The Georgia State men's tennis team (12-5, 2-0 CAA) has won five straight matches after defeating Delaware (5-6, 1-2 CAA), 6-1, on the campus of Towson University on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Calvin Kemp returned to singles play and won a three-set thriller at No. 3 singles.

Georgia State had to battle in the doubles matches taking two of the three to claim the doubles point. The team of Henri Mangin/Victor Valente came up with the clinching win at No. 2 doubles with a 8-6 win over Courtney Scott/Chris Hincker. 

In singles play the Panthers welcomed back sophomore Calvin Kemp, who played for the first time since injuring his hamstring against Georgia Tech. Kemp showed some rust early on dropping the first set, 7-5. Kemp came back to win the final two sets 6-4, 10-7 in a tie-breaker. Kemp improves to 10-2 overall on the season.

Freshman Victor Valente was very impressive with a straight sets victory at No. 2 singles. Valente improves to 12-5 on the season after shutting out his opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Jackson Moore came up clutch for the Panthers with his straight sets victory at No. 1 singles. Moore defeated Austin Longacre, 6-4, 6-3, to clinch the match for Georgia State. 

"This is a quality win for us over a good Delaware team.  I'm very proud of the guys effort today.  We face a big challenge with a tough JMU team tomorrow morning.  It was nice to see Calvin back in singles action today," said head coach Chase Hodges

Senior Henri Mangin continues his hot play by winning his fifth-straight match to improve to 12-3 overall on the season. Mangin won in straight sets at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-1, victory over Sam Barrer. 

Georgia State finishes the weekend with a morning match against James Madison tomorrow at 9 a.m. in Towson, Md.
