Box Score WILMINGTON, N.C. – Georgia State Men's Tennis earned their way back into the win column on Friday afternoon with a non-conference road win over the Seahawks of UNC Wilmington.
Gustav Andersson topped his opponent on line three to secure the winning point in the 4-2 victory.
After dropping their third line matchup to open doubles play, the top line duo of
Aleksandar Andrin and
Gabriele Datei pulled the Panthers back to even with a 6-3 win on line one. In the deciding second line duel,
Arthur Attrill and
Cem Atlamis outlasted their opponents from Wilmington, securing a 6-3 victory of their own to put the Panthers up 1-0 on the match.
In singles play, Andrin and
Sota Minami took care of business with straight set victories on courts four and six, respectively. Minami's win continued an impressive stretch of play on the six line, where he has started six consecutive matches without a loss. With Georgia State on the edge of victory, the Seahawks battled to wins on courts one and two to keep the Panthers at bay.
After trading dominant set wins to force a third, Andersson and his counterpart from Wilmington were locked in a back-and-forth affair with the Panthers still sitting at match point. The Seahawks' Jordi Domenech pushed the set to the limit, but it was Andersson taking the 7-5 victory to secure the match for the Panthers.
