Langford Out-Duels Fordham Star Pitcher Mineau

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Georgia State freshman pitcher McCall Langford out-dueled Fordham star pitcher Jen Mineau and fellow freshman Audrey Mason hit her first career home run as the Panthers defeated the Rams, 1-0, in the final game of the Springhill Suites Buckhead Classic.

Mason swung at the first pitch Mineau threw to her in the fourth and took it over the right center field wall to give the Panthers what proved to be the winning 1-0 lead. It was the Kennesaw, Ga., native's first career home run and her third game-winning RBI of the season, the other two coming in the Siena games. Yesterday against Mercer, Mason sent the tying run across the plate before scoring the winning run as the Panthers defeated the Bears, 3-2.

Langford (5-1) pitched a gem, going the distance allowing only two hits and walking two while striking out four, which tied a career high. It was her second complete game of the season. The LaGrange, Ga., native had plenty of help from her defense, however, as several hard hits were snared by rightfielder Lauren Fetters and third baseman Danielle Roddy to name a few.

Mineau (10-2) allowed only a single run on two hits while striking out eight but one pitch to Mason gave her the loss.

Georgia State is now 4-1 this season in games decided by a single run, and the Panthers notched their fourth shutout of the year.

The Panthers (14-8) end the Springhill Suites Buckhead Classic with a 2-2 record. They will take a day off before getting back to action on Tuesday when they host Mercer and Tulsa at Panthersville. Mercer and Tulsa will play at 2 p.m., before GSU plays Mercer at 4 p.m. and Tulsa at 6 p.m. All games will be available via livestats.
