Late Rally Falls Short 6-3 to JMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Georgia State softball mounted a late push on Sunday, but fell short 6-3 in the series finale to the James Madison Dukes at Veterans Memorial Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
James Madison struck first with a run in the opening inning before adding two more in the third and single runs in the fourth and fifth to build a 5-0 advantage.

Georgia State answered in the sixth inning. Chloe Hatcher drew a walk and Payton O'Connor came around to score on a two-run single from Morgan Willingham. Later in the frame, Kya Walker lined an RBI single through the left side to bring home Ciarra Jefferson and cut the deficit to 5-3.

The Dukes responded with an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning and closed out the final frame to secure the 6-3 win.

GAME NOTES
» Georgia State scored all three of its runs in the sixth inning.
» The Panthers went 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
» Georgia State pitchers held James Madison to 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
» Panther pitchers recorded 10 ground-outs and three strikeouts.
» Georgia State drew four walks at the plate.

Georgia State returns home for the final regular-season series against Georgia Southern beginning Thursday, April 30. First pitch from Bob Heck Softball Complex is set for 6 p.m. The series continues Friday, May 1 at 4 p.m. on Parent Appreciation Day before concluding Saturday, May 2 at 2 p.m. on Senior Day.
