Birmingham, Ala. - The Georgia State men's tennis team (2-1) fell at UAB, 4-1, Friday night. Sophomore Calvin Kemp continued his perfect singles record by earning a victory at No. 2 singles against Dan Cornei, ranked #112, 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (6).
The Panthers battled in a five-hour match against UAB (3-1) with Kemp earning the only victory to improve to 3-0 in singles play.
Freshman Victor Valente lost in a three-set thriller against Manlow, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6). Freshman Lucas Santana was also fell in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
"The guys fought hard tonight. Calvin picked up a great win for us in singles. We had tight matches at all the other positions. This was a good experience and we will improve greatly from this," said head coach Chase Hodges.
Georgia State returns to action tomorrow against Samford at 9:30 a.m. in Birmingham, Ala.
