ATLANTA - The Georgia State men's soccer team scored two first half goals, but fell 4-2 after Towson scored two second half goals against the Panthers on Friday afternoon at Panthersville.
The Panthers (7-7-3, 4-6-1 CAA) ended their 2010 campaign with four CAA victories, their most conference wins since 2005.
In the first half, the Tigers struck first in the 12th minute when Joe O'Rourke found the back of the net to make the score 1-0 Towson.
Just under four minutes later, sophomore midfielder Alex Vivanco made a run towards the goal and fired a shot about 20 yards out, that rattled off the top of the net to even the score at 1-1. Vivanco scored his third goal of the season.
The Panthers took the lead in the 32nd minute after a clearance ended up on the head of freshman forward Evan Scott who found the back of the net to give GSU a 2-1 advantage. Scott scored his third goal of the season.
Towson answered just four minutes later, when leading scorer Marco Mangione received a cross from Stefan Frodert that was placed into the lower corner of the net to tie the game at 2-2. It was Mangione's 11th goal of the season.
Early in the second half at the 48:03 mark, Mangione scored for the second time in the game beating goalkeeper Vincent Foermer at the right corner of the net.
Georgia State had a couple of opportunities to even the game once more but was unable to come away with the equalizer.
In the 61st minute, sophomore midfielder Yasser Majluf placed a shot heading towards the lower right corner but Tigers' goalkeeper Angelo Viteritti made the save.
The Panthers best opportunity came in the 76th minute when sophomore midfielder Gimel Gordon raced down the left side of the field making a perfect cross inside the box right to Scott's feet but his attempt went just high over the goal.
Towson would add an insurance goal in the 87th minute when Malcolm Manswell received a pass from Olakunle Banjo that found the back of the net to make the final 4-2.
Majluf and Gordon led the team with three shots apiece and three shots on goal combined. The Panthers outshot the Tigers 12-to-9 in the game.
