HUNTINGTON – The Panthers captured a lead late in the first half, but Marshall quickly erased the lead and built one of their own, dominating the second half to hand Georgia State the 3-1 loss in Huntington on Saturday night.
How It Happened
A slow start to the first half gave way to an action-packed final five minutes, starting with Matt Taylor giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Taylor, who has been playing a game of metaphorical leapfrog with
Samir Djeha atop the team's scoring leaderboard, matched his teammate once again, speeding past the Marshall defense for his fifth goal of the campaign.
The Thundering Herd, however, were quick to pull back even. The team's 43rd-minute goal sent the teams into the halftime break tied 1-1.
The intermission did little to slow down Marshall, who scored a pair of goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half, opening up a 3-1 lead.
Making the lead more difficult to cut into, the Panthers received a straight red card in the 63rd minute that limited them to 10 players on the pitch for the remainder of the game.
Without their full unit on the field, Georgia State struggled to wage shots on the Marshall net, eventually falling by a final score of 3-1.
