Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Panthers Trounce Old Dominion to Stay Unbeaten in Conference Play

Atlanta, Ga. - Georgia State Men's Soccer jumped out to an early lead and did not look back on Sunday night, turning a 3-0 halftime lead into a 5-2 victory over Old Dominion on their home field. The performance marked their highest scoring game of the season as well as their largest margin of victory.

How It Happened

Looking to break a streak of three straight draws, the Panthers took an early lead over the Monarchs courtesy of a goal from Evan Bohms. Tom Williams used a corner kick to put a cross right in the box, where Bohms headed it in for the 1-0 lead.

It took little time for the Panthers to double up their advantage. In the 20th minute, a collision between Samir Djeha and the Old Dominion keeper sent the ball flying. Sandro Rabarivony collected the loose ball and took advantage of the open lane, sending a shot into the net for the 2-0 lead.

Not satisfied with two first half scores, Djeha carved up the Old Dominion defense and slipped a pass in to Pavel Romero-Garmendia, who turned heel and fired one past the keeper to stretch the advantage to 3-1. With three goals in the first half, the Panthers matched their previous highest output for an entire game.

After a goal in the 46th minute cut the Panthers' lead to two, Old Dominion threatened to pull within one score throughout the second half. When an overplay by Loan Marin left a Monarch shot dribbling toward an empty goal, Bohms came flying in to make a last second save, barely keeping the ball on the right side of the line.

Looking to turn a great offensive performance into the best of the season, Djeha got in on the scoring for himself, turning a pair of late opportunities into a season-high of two goals for himself and a season-high of five scores for himself.

The Monarchs scored a late goal, but it was too little too late to stop the dominant performance turned in by the Panthers.

Game Notes
  • Marin tuned in a season-high seven saves in the victory
  • The Panthers were outshot 23-14, but had 12 shots on goal compared to just 10 for the Monarchs
  • Djeha is the first Georgia State player to score multiple goals in a game this season, a performance thay gave him sole possession of the team lead with five on the season
  • The Panthers committed just 10 fouls compared to 20 for Old Dominion
