Men's Soccer Falls to George Mason, 3-0, on Senior Day

ATLANTA - The Georgia State men's soccer team lost against George Mason, 3-0, on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Panthersville.

The Panthers (7-6-3, 4-5-1 CAA) honored their four seniors before the game; midfielder Donald Kirkland, defender Darryl Evans, midfielder Joey Syfert and midfielder Joe Castaldo.

In the first half, Georgia State was attacking early on when sophomore Gimel Gordon had a shot attempt that was blocked by the Patriot defense.

In the 24th minute, freshman forward Evan Scott received a cross that headed towards the goal but Patriots' keeper Sean Cote made the save to keep it scoreless.

Five minutes later, the Panthers committed a foul inside the box resulting in a penalty kick for George Mason. Defender Fro Adu blasted the kick into the lower left corner to give the Patriots an early 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, sophomore Alex Vivanco had two chances for an equalizer but both attempts were blocked by the Mason defense. Vivanco's second attempt came off a free kick in the 50th minute.

In the 68th minute, George Mason added an insurance goal by Ernesto Marquez, who scored his sixth goal of the season.

Less than 40 seconds later, the Panthers had their best opportunity in the game when Vivanco send in a ball that Scott put a header into the back of the net, but he was called for outsides.

The Patriots would add another goal from Marquez in the 81st minute receiving a pass from Hugh Roberts to score his second goal of the game.

Vivanco lead the Panthers with three shots and sophomore goalkeeper Vincent Foermer had four saves in the defeat.

Georgia State returns to the pitch on Friday to take on Towson at 3 p.m. in the last home game of the season at Panthersville.
