South Bend, Ind. – Paced by junior Charlotte Lorentzen's
second-place finish, the Georgia State women's golf team climbed one spot in
the final round to finish the Warren K. William Irish Invitational in sixth
place out of the 13 team field in South Bend, Ind. on Sunday.
After completing the
second round at the top spot in individual competition, Lorentzen shot a 2-over
74 in the final round, missing No. 1 by three strokes, to finish tied for
second place with Notre Dame's Nicole Zhang. Lorentzen's share of second place
in the Irish Invitational represents the fifth top-10 of her Panther career.
After finishing the
first 36 holes with a share of third place, Louisville's Sara-Maude Juneau rose
two spots to earn the medalist honor, firing a 3-under 69 in the final round. Kent
State's Martina Gavier finished in fourth, three strokes behind second place,
to round out the top four in individual competition.
As a team, Georgia
State rose one spot from seven of 13 at the end of day one, to a sixth of 13
finish. The Panthers posted a 307 in the final round, the fourth-best score in
the last 18 holes, to finish with a total 926 (+62).
Freshman Laura
Sanchez fired a 5-over 77 to jump five spots and finish in the top-20 with a
share of 19th place. Junior transfer Charlotte Guilleux also shot a
77 in the final 18 holes to finish ten spots behind Sanchez, tied for 29th.
Freshman Solveig
Helgesen played her best round of 18 on Sunday, shooting a 7-over 79 to finish
with a share of 55th place.
Freshman Jenny
Haggblom finished tied for 60th place, shooting a 83 (+11) in the
final round of competition.
Host No. 7 Notre
Dame maintained its lead through the final round to take the Irish Invitational
trophy with a third round 302 (+14). Despite shooting the best third round
score, No. 19 Kent State took silver with a total 910 (+46) followed by No. 13
Ohio State in third with a 921 (+57).
The Georgia State
women's golf team will return to the links Oct. 8-10 with its first trip to the
Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic in Knoxville, Tenn.
