Panthers Lead Paladin Invitational After Day One

Greenville, S.C. - Paced by junior Charlotte Lorentzen's and freshman Jenny Haggblom's share of first place, the Georgia State women's golf team finished round one of the Lady Paladin Invitational in the lead at first place. The Panthers fired a 302 (+14) on the par-72, 6,199-yard Furman University Golf Course to win the top spot in the 17-team field.

After missing the Panthers' previous tournament due to an illness, Lorentzen made an impressive showing in her return to the links, firing a 1-over 73 to snag a share of the top spot in individual competition. The Soroe, Denmark native shot two birdies, three bogies and was even on the remaining 13 holes.

Also shooting a 1-over 73, Haggblom matched her best round of the fall season. The Eckero, Finland native led the way with a 73 (+1) at the end of the first round in Georgia State's last tournament, the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship in Knoxville, Tenn.  Haggblom landed six birdies on the day to place her in a tie for first place, along with teammate Lorentzen.

Charlotte Guilleux also found a spot in the top-10, ending the day in a tie for seventh place. The junior transfer fired one birdie and four bogies for a total score of 3-over 75.

Freshmen Solveig Helgesen finished round one in a tie for 50th place, shooting 9-over 81. Freshman Laura Sanchez stands in a tie for 58th place entering day two, after shooting 82 (+10) on the first round of 18.

No. 42 Chattanooga stands in second place on the leader board, three strokes behind Georgia State. The 2009 Lady Paladin Invitational Champions, Nova Southeastern, claimed third place shooting 307 (+19), followed by Samford with 308 (+20) and Furman and Longwood in a tie for fifth each with 310 (+22).

Lorentzen and Haggblom share first place with Nova Southeastern's Sandra Changkija, the Lady Paladin Invitational's defending individual medalist. Tied for fourth behind the trio at the top are Sia Evans from East Tennessee State, Samford's Anna Heim and Chattanooga's Christine Wolf all with 74 (+2).

Second round tee times will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning off the first and tenth tees. The time was moved back an hour from the original start time due to a frost advisory. Georgia State will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 11:30 a.m. Live stats are available via Golfstat.com.
