Wilmington, N.C. - The Georgia State men's soccer team (5-4-3, 2-3-1 CAA) used a career high 10 saves from sophomore goalkeeper Vincent Foermer to earn a 0-0 draw in double overtime against UNC Wilmington (7-4-1, 3-1-1 CAA) on Wednesday night.
The Panthers would battle the No. 27 ranked Seahawks to a scoreless tie in double overtime thanks in part to the stellar play of sophomore goalkeeper Foermer. Foermer earned his third shut out of the season and has posted back-to-back clean sheets.
In the first overtime Georgia State would have its best chance for a game winner when sophomore Eric Lawrence blasted a shot on goal in the 96th minute, but Seahawks' goalkeeper Brock Duckworth made the save.
UNC Wilmington would have its chance in the overtime just a minute later, but Foermer made three straight saves with the last one coming against Seph Babington, off a corner kick, to keep the game tied.
In the second overtime, sophomore forward Yasser Majluf would have a golden opportunity in the 104th minute with a shot on goal but Seahawks' keeper Duckworth made his sixth and final save of the night.
Georgia State would battle in the second half keeping the game scoreless thanks to four key saves from Foermer, including a shot from Andy McDaniel with just 30 seconds remaining in the game.
In the first half the Seahawks came out firing with two shots on goal in the first three minutes of the game. UNC Wilmington midfielder Thomas Driver had a shot on goal but Panthers' keeper Foermer made the save to keep the game tied. Foermer came up huge again just 40 seconds later making a save on an Allen Lomax shot attempt.
The Panthers would get two opportunities early on when sophomore Peter Vania had a chance on goal but Seahawks goalkeeper Duckworth came up with the save in the 11th minute.
Four minutes later, sophomore Victor Nkhoma fired a shot on goal but Duckworth was up to the challenge again, making the save to keep the game scoreless. Six seconds later, junior Ayokunle Lumpkin had a shot but again Duckworth would make the save.
UNC Wilmington would have its best chance come in the 25th minute having a shot from Jeff Shapiro hit the post. Less than a minute later, Andy McDaniel would have an attempt on goal but Foermer made his third save of the half.
Sophomore Majluf would finish the game with four shots, including two on goal to lead the Panthers.
Georgia State will continue its road trip on Saturday afternoon against Drexel at 3 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
