Nunnery Named Men's Tennis Assistant Coach

Atlanta- Rob Nunnery has been named as an assistant coach for the men's tennis team under Head Coach Chase Hodges for the 2009-2010 campaign.

He comes to Georgia State after serving the 2008-09 campaign under Hodges as an assistant coach at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He helped lead the Bulldogs to a Missouri Valley Conference regular season title and a number 51 national ranking during the year. Along with being the assistant coach at Drake, Nunnery also served as the head tennis professional at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines. Before his stint at Drake, Nunnery was the assistant coach at Stony Brook University.

"I've had the opportunity to coach Rob as he was a student-athlete for me at UNC Asheville," said Hodges. He played an integral role in leading the program to a national ranking during my tenure at UNC Asheville."

"Last season, Rob did a great job as my assistant coach at Drake University. His Georgia background will greatly aid in-state recruiting for us here at Georgia State."

Nunnery also previously served as a private coach in Scotland, where he coached one of the top-10 players in the United Kingdom. He also served as the Director of Tennis at the Kerry Centre Hotel in Beijing, China. Nunnery has tutored numerous players with ATP singles and doubles rankings and has also worked at tennis facilities in New York, North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Alabama, totaling seven years of experience.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina-Asheville with a bachelor's degree in mass communication, Nunnery was a two-time, first-team All-Big South player for the Bulldogs. Playing at No. 1 singles and doubles he was twice named team captain, compiling a 70-25 singles record and a 52-31 doubles mark. He was also selected as UNCA's student-athlete of the year two times and was a two-time selection to the Big South All-Academic team.
