Panthers, Scott Second At CAAs

Anna Scott led the way for the 27th-ranked Georgia State women's golf team at the 2009 Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Friday at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.

Scott's 74 (+4) at the 6,030 yard, par 70 Lake View Golf Course puts near the top of the leaderboard, trailing only UNC Wilmington's Carmen Perez-Narbon's 73 (+3) at the end of day one.

Scott had six bogeys and ten pars through 16 before a birdie-birdie finish to move to second place overall.

In the team competition, UNC Wilmington sits in the lead at +20 after posting a 300 in round one. Georgia State trails by two shots after posting a 304 (+24) to claim second place alone.

Freshman Charlotte Lorentzen joined Scott in the top ten by posting a 76 (+6) to claim a share of seventh place.

Defending CAA Champion Cathrine Madsen finished alongside her sophomore teammates Iliska Verwey and Sandra Maier at 7-over 77s for shares of 12th place.

Finishing behind Georgia State in the team competition are Richmond (+30), Towson (+34), William & Mary (+35), James Madison (+39), Xavier (+48), Old Dominion (+49), Dayton (+52), and Hofstra (+71).

A UNC Wilmington victory would be a repeat of last season, as the Seahawks and Panthers finished one-two in 2008.

Weather for the first round was mostly clear, but featured strong wind gusts during the morning before settling in the afternoon.

Play begins tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. with all players teeing off of the first hole.

Live scoring will be available through www.GolfStat.com with scoring updates coming every six holes.

Full scores and stories will be available at www.GeorgiaStateSports.com at the close of competition.
