Golf Finishes 4th at John Hayt

Freshman Allen John's 72 (E) and seventh-place finish led the way, the second day in a row, for the 49th-ranked (Golfweek) Georgia State men's golf team as they finished fourth of 15 teams in the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the par 72, 6,895 yard Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra, Fla. Tuesday.

John's performance also marks the second time this spring that he has finished as the lowest Georgia State golfer. John finished 17th at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. 

John's seventh place finish at +4 puts him one shot in front of nationally-ranked players Stephan Gross (#26), Chris Paisley (#15), and Zack Sucher (#48). John finished six shots in front of 13th-ranked Bud Cauley.

Georgia State finished with a 293 (+5) in the final round, moving them from +31 to +36 for the tournament.

The Panthers managed to finish in front of nationally-ranked #4 Alabama, #17 TCU, #19 Tennessee, and #21 Chattanooga. Georgia State's final score at the John Hayt is 299-308-293?900.

Louisiana State passed Arizona State in the team competition on Monday and held off the Sun Devils by finishing at +21, after carding a team total of 296-295-294?885.

In the individual competition, 91st-ranked John Peterson of LSU made a charge up the leaderboard with a round of 70 (-2) that included six birdies to win the John Hayt by two strokes with a three day total of 71-73-70?214.

Arizona State's James Byrne and Coastal Carolina's Zack Byrd held the lead at the end of Monday's round, but shot 77 and 75, respectively, to make way for Peterson.

For Georgia State, Allen John finished seventh with rounds of 75-73-72?220 (+4).

Junior Tom Sherreard recovered from a triple-bogey at the ninth with birdies at 11, 14, and 16 to finish in 13th place by recording a 75-77-73?225 (+9) for the tournament.

Tobias Rosendahl also moved up the leaderboard with a 74 (+2) that was a product of an up-and-down round which included five birdies, five bogeys, and a double bogey. Rosendahl finished with scores of 72-80-74?226 (+10) in 17th place.

Sophomore Brent Paul fired his best round of the tournament, Tuesday, with a 74 (+2). Paul struggled on day one with an 80 (+8), and carded a 78 during tough wind conditions on day two to finish 80-78-74?232 (+16) in 48th.

Alan Fowler finished his trip to the John Hayt with a 78 (+6) that leaves him in 64th place after scores of 77-82-78?237 (+21).

In the team competition, 32nd-ranked LSU finished on top at +21. Following the Tigers are #10 Arizona State (+29), Georgia Southern (+31), #49 Georgia State (+36), #19 Tennessee (+37), UAB (+41), #4 Alabama (+43), #17 TCU (+45), #48 Coastal Carolina (+46), UNC Wilmington (+54), host North Florida (+55), #46 Tulsa (+57), #21 Chattanooga (+63), Furman (+63), and #23 Duke (+68). 

Next, Georgia State looks ahead to a March 8th dual-match with Yale at the Atlanta Country Club.
