Atlanta (November 17, 2009) Georgia State men's soccer team announced its annual team awards for the 2009 season.
Team Awards:
Attacking mvp: Stephan Minyono- "Stephan improved so much from his junior year. Our senior played big in CAA matches and was dangerous in the attacking third. We will miss him next year, said Head Coach Kerem Daser."
Defensive mvp: Chris Peacos - "Our sophomore all CAA captain was the general in the back for us. He was the leader of our back four and has tremendous potential and we look for this to lead our young team this spring."
Most improved: Peter Vania -"Peter improved so much from the preseason. He struggled early on- but he scored big goal for us in the North florida win. After the North florida he became our starting right back. He has a great technical side for a big defender and we if he improves his workrate and pure speed he will be great defender for us this spring."
Newcomer of the Year: Vincent Foermer -"Vincent made the all Freshmen team and had an an outstanding freshman campaign. He wants to get better and is very coachable keeper. Our goalkeeper coach filipe will work hard with him this spring to improve in dealing with crosses and his distribution. He is great team player and will be great keeper for us in the future."
Coaches award: Ken Dowd-"Ken made our team as one of our walkon this year. He is one of our hardest working players. He is great student-athlete who loves the team. He always has a smile and wants to get better. He is a pleasure to coach and will get playing time this spring if he gets better this spring."
In 13 years, coach Daser has coached 30 all conference performers, 12 all freshmen players, and had 91 all academic performers.
