Towson, Md. (November 1, 2009) Georgia State men's soccer
team (4-9-1, 2-8 CAA) gave up a goal with less than a minute remaining to loss
a heartbreaker at Towson (7-9, 4-6 CAA), 2-1, Sunday afternoon.
Georgia State had tied the match in the first half when
freshman Moosah Dowlatabadi made a cross inside the box as senior Stephan
Minyono one-timed it into the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.
The Panthers were hurt by a couple of breakaways in the
match especially in the 89th minute when Roslin Nzokou made a pass
to Liam Maloney who beat the Georgia State keeper Vincent Foermer to win the
match for Towson. Maloney had the one-on-one and scored his ninth goal of the
season.
"It was tough to be down so quickly in the match, it was nice to see Stephan (Minyono) score in a CAA match tying the score 1-1 before halftime, said Kerem Daser."
Foermer finished the match with seven saves to increase his
2009 season total to 70 saves.
Senior Stephan Minyono scored his second goal of the season
finishing the match with three shots including two on net.
"The second half was back-and-forth, Vincent (Foermer) made a lot of nice saves to keep the game even. "It was a solid performance but we just didn't come out on top, we gave a great effort and look forward to our final match, added Daser."
In the first half of play the Panthers were down early when
30 seconds into the match Towson found the back of the net off a breakaway to
make the score 1-0. Appel-Schumacher scored his third goal of the season with
assists to Liam Maloney and Marco Mangione.
Georgia State did even the score by half time but could not
overcome missed opportunities in the match falling late. The Panthers will hope
to win its final conference game against Delaware.
Georgia State will finished its conference season on the
road against Delaware Tuesday Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.
