GSU Drops Match against William & Mary, 1-0

Atlanta (October 28, 2009) The Georgia State men's soccer team (4-8-1, 2-7 CAA) dropped a conference match against region No. 4 William & Mary (11-4-1, 6-2-1 CAA), 1-0, Wednesday afternoon. Freshman goalie Vincent Foermer finished the match with eight saves.

William & Mary scored the only goal at the 20th minute mark to give the Tribe a key 1-0 win over the Panthers at Atlanta Silverbacks Park. Georgia State had a couple of chances to tie the game but could not convert after another great battle at home.

The Tribe struck first when Nathaniel Baako made a terrific pass to Alan Koger who finished the play by beating the Panther's goalie Vincent Foermer to the right corner of the net to give William & Mary a 1-0 lead in the first half. In the 41st minute of play William & Mary was attacking near the net again when Peter Christmas landed a shot on net but Foermer came up with the save to keep the game 1-0. Eight second later Ryan Synder blasted a shot on net but Foermer made a great save again to notch his fourth save of the first half.

"In the first half, I felt like we a couple of chances and Stephan's run down the right side just went wide but Vincent (Foermer) came up big for us again, said Head Coach Kerem Daser."

In the first five minutes of play William & Mary was trying to add to its lead when Caleb Thomas fired on goal but Foermer made a diving save to keep the score 1-0. Seven seconds later Chris Perez had an attempt on goal but Foermer denied him making another save.

Five minutes later Perez had another shot at giving the Tribe an insurance goal as his shot on goal was heading into the net when Foermer got a hand on it to make the ball hit the crossbar keeping the score 1-0 Tribe.

"It was disappointing to lose but I think we played a great game today, in the second half we had a couple of chances with crosses but could not capitalize on them." "We gave a great effort against a very solid team and it was nice to see us play against one of the top teams in the conference, added Kerem Daser."

Freshman goalie Vincent Foermer finished the match with eight critical saves to keep the match close.

Georgia State returns to conference play heading on the road to play Towson Sunday Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.
