Seniors Sandra Maier and Cathrine Madsen and sophomore Charlotte Lorentzen all positioned themselves in the top-25 heading into the final round Monday at the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Kiawah Island, S.C. leading Georgia State women's golf to a tie for fifth of 18.
The Panthers fired a pair of 299s at the par-72, 5,916 yard Oak Point Golf Club for a 299-299-598 (+22). Georgia State will be chasing East Tennessee State (+7), Maryland (+10), Campbell (+15), and Kennesaw State (+18) during the final round.
Maier and Madsen finished the first round in fourth and fifth, respectively, but slipped some in the afternoon round. Maier followed her opening round, a season-best 71 (-1), with a 76 (+4) to leave herself in a tie for 12th at 3-over par.
Madsen posted a 72 (E) in the morning to earn a share of fifth, but fell into a tie for 16th after a late round of 76 (+4). The Herning, Denmark native finds herself in a tie for 16th at 4-over par.
Sophomore Charlotte Lorentzen bounced back from a difficult opening round to pick up 41 spots on the leaderboard with a 70 (-2). Lorentzen's two round total is 149 (+5) placing her in a tie for 22nd.
Freshman Ellie Robinson posted a pair of 77s to finish the day in a tie for 43rd. Sophomore Cherishton Brett followed up her morning 95 with a 92 to finish the day in 93rd.
Maryland's Jessie Hollandsworth leads the individual competition with scores of 69-68-137 (-7).
Tomorrow, Georgia State will attempt to mount a comeback and successfully defend their 2008 Palmetto Intercollegiate team title beginning at 8:30 a.m. Live stats are unavailable for the event, but a full recap will be posted at www.GeorgiaStateSports.com at the close of competition.
