Norfolk, Va. (April 6, 2008) The Georgia State men's tennis team dropped its final two matches of the season with a 6-1 loss to Old Dominion on Saturday and a 4-0 loss to Radford on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers opened play against the Monarchs winning one of three doubles matches. Nejc Podkrajsek and Anze Cevka defeated Timo Gehrke and Matt Fawcett 8-5 on court #1, but allowed ODU to slip away with the doubles point after two victories on courts 2 and 3.
Podkrajsek clinched State's lone point in singles, taking down ODU's Alexandr Seleznev 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. Aleksandar Elezovic battled from behind to push his match to a tie breaker, but fell 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-4 to Tobias Fanselow at No. 3. Trenton Spinks led Matthew Fawcett into a tie breaker after winning the first set 7-6(4) and falling 6-1 in the second, and eventually lost 10-2 in the tiebreaker at No. 5 as the Monarchs slipped past the Panthers 6-1.
In Sunday's competition, the teams only competed in singles matches with the Panthers dropping four of six. William Adeimy and Trenton Spinks both led their matches, but did not finish as the Highlanders took the 4-0 win. Nejc Podkrajsek dropped a 6-3, 6-4 match to Radford's Martin Sayer on court 1 while Anze Cevka fell6-1, 6-3 to Ivan Salec on court 2. Aleksandar Elezovic lost 6-1, 6-1 to James Lloyd at No. 3 and Ross Hopper fell 6-4, 7-5 to Paul Boslet on court 6.
