With Cathrine Madsen posting a career-best round to take second overall, the 36-ranked Georgia State University women's golf team rests in second place after posting a team score of 290 (+2) at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships in Williamsburg, Va. on Friday.

Sophomore Cathrine Madsen sits in second overall after carding a personal best two-under par 70 (-2) in her first round. The native of Denmark carded five birdies in her round.

Madsen, who finished tied for eighth in last year's CAA Championship, is one stroke off the lead held by UNC Wilmington's Ashley Tait.

In addition to Madsen's career round, every member of the Panthers' team finish in the top-11 overall as State finished day one at the CAAs two strokes off the lead held by UNC Wilmington.

Junior Anna Scott sits in fourth overall after carding a first-round score of even-par 72, while freshmen Sandra Maier and Iliska Verwey are tied for sixth with scores of 74 (+2). Junior Claire Starkie is tied for 11th among the 50-player field after a round of 76 (+4).

The women's team has won three conference championships in the last five years, including the 2006 CAA Championship in the team's first year in the league. The Panthers received the automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals each year with their best performance an 11th-place showing in 2006.
