ATLANTA ? Georgia State
(29-13, 7-4 CAA) split a pair against Furman (19-22, 7-5 SoCon), 0-3 and 2-1, on
Wednesday, April 16 in Greenville,
S.C. Natasha Berry had two hits against the
Paladins in the second game, along with her 15th stolen base of the
season.
Senior Ashley Cowan garnered the win in the second game of
the doubleheader, improving her record to 7-4, allowing eight hits, two walks,
and no earned runs while fanning two batters.
Furman took the first game, 3-0, scoring three runs in seven
innings off four hits and four Panther errors.
Georgia State collected five hits from Danielle
Roddy, Rachel Cunningham, Lauren Jones, Rebecca Roles, and Holly Willis, but was
unable to put a run across the board.
Junior right-hand pitcher Madi Gore (9-5) took the loss, allowing only
four hits and one earned run after facing 27 batters.
In the nightcap, the Panthers two runs came in the top of
the fourth when sophomore infielder Danielle Roddy led off the inning with a
walk, she then advanced on a passed ball. Berry singled, putting runners on first and
second. Berry then stole second, drawing a
throw from the catcher, which allowed Roddy to score from third, a poor throw
by the catcher and the centerfielder allowed Berry to score on the play, putting the
Panthers on top 2-1.
Georgia State returns to Colonial Athletic Association play
this weekend, hosting a three-game series with Towson with a doubleheader Saturday, beginning
at 12 noon, and then a single game Sunday at 12 noon at Bob Heck Field.
