ATHENS (Feb. 8, 2008) No. 67 Georgia State fell to No. 2 Georgia in a 7-0 shutout on Friday at Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 1-3 while UGA remains undefeated with a 9-0 record.
State lost the doubles point after Nejc Podkrajsek went down with an injury, forcing the duo to forfeit with the score tied 4-4. Trenton Spinks and Ross Hopper fell 8-3 to Christian Vitulli and freshman Javier Garrapiz at No. 3, allowing UGA to clinch the point. UGA went on to sweep the doubles with an 8-3 win over William Adeimy and Aleksandar Elezovic.
The Panthers had to also forfeit the No. 6 match, giving UGA a 2-0 lead. Spinks battled it out at No. 3, but fell 6-0, 6-1 to Vitulli. The Bulldogs clinched the victory after No. 89 Anze Cevka fell 6-1, 6-2 to No. 17 Nate Schnugg. UGA continued the sweep as Elezovic fell 6-3, 6-0 to Javier Garrapiz and Adeimy was downed by No. 67 Jamie Hunt by a 6-2, 6-3 score. Hopper finished out the singles competition, falling 6-0, 6-2 to Josh Varela.
Georgia State will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 15, with a road match against No. 45 William & Mary in Richmond, Va. at 2:30 p.m.
