AUBURN, Ala. (Feb. 12, 2008) After losing the doubles point, the Georgia State women's tennis team (3-5) could not catch up in singles as the Panthers lost to 30th-ranked Auburn, 7-0, at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

For the second consecutive match Georgia State has lost the doubles point. Auburn's Gaby Beleen and Dunja Djuranovic won the first match defeating Kiara Powell and Kiera Strickland 8-0 at No. 3. The Tigers' Whitney Chappell and Alex Haney clinched the doubles point beating Katerina Gresova and Martina Nitkova 8-4 in the second match and Fani Chifchieva and Jil Hastenrath completed the sweep downing Dariana Kozmina and Rachel Malina 8-5 at No. 2.

The Panthers fought hard in singles competition, with Nitkova and Gresova each pushing their matches to three sets. The Tigers earned its first singles point as Malina went down at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0. Strickland fell at No. 6 to Djuranovic 7-5, 6-1, and Nitkova fell to Chifchieva in three sets- 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. The Tigers clinched the victory when Kozmina went down at No. 2, losing 7-6, 6-4 to Haney.

Georgia State travels locally on Friday, facing Emory at the Woodruff P.E. Center in Atlanta at 4 p.m.
