Led by third place finishes by Iliska Verwey and Cathrine Madsen, Georgia State women's golf picked up its third team win of the fall season by finishing first out of 19 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Oak Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island, S.C. Tuesday.
The Palmetto Intercollegiate marks the end of the fall season for the Panthers, two months that have included wins at the U. of Cincinnati Women's Fall Classic, Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, and Palmetto Intercollegiate, as well as two medalist honors for sophomore Iliska Verwey. 
Georgia State surged to the finish line with a 297 (+9), the best team round during the tournament, paced by a final round 71 from Verwey and a 72 from Madsen. 
After trailing by five at the end of round one, Georgia State was forced to wait until Tuesday to make their comeback due to suspended play on account of darkness.
The Panthers opened the day with a 306 (+18) with kept stride with team leader East Tennessee State. 
The second round was highlighted by Anna Scott's 73 (+1) which pulled her back into contention after an opening round 78. 
In the final round, Georgia State was able to chase down the leaders by turning in the tournament's low round. The Panthers' 297 was the lowest team score of the third round by 11 strokes, and bested second round leaders ETSU by 12 strokes. 
Georgia State's three round total reads 306-304-297 907 (+43). The Panthers carded 34 birdies and 156 pars to lead the tournament in both. Anna Scott's nine birdies led the tournament, while steady Verwey had 38 pars and seven birdies.
East Tennessee State finished second with a 299-306-309 914 (+50). Washington State, College of Charleston, and Princeton rounded out the top five.
Susannah Aboff and Marlowe Boukis, both from Princeton, tied for first in the individual competition at 224 (+8). Iliska Verwey and Cathrine Madsen both recorded 225 (+9) to finish one stroke back. Verwey fired scores of 75-79-71, Madsen 76-77-72. 
Anna Scott finished 19th for the Panthers with a scorecard of 78-73-80 231 (+15) and a team-best nine birdies in this tournament.
 
Sandra Maier's 79-77-77 233 (+17) earned her a 23rd place finish. Claire Starkie finished with 75-85-77 237 (+21) for 37th place.
Georgia State finishes the fall season winning three out of five tournaments, with finishes of fourth out of 15 and seventh out of 20 in the other two.
The Panthers' fall season has been wildly successful, including a school record 64 by Iliska Verwey, four rounds in the 60s (two for Verwey, one for Starkie, one for Maier), seven top fives, nine top 10s, and 15 top 20s.
Georgia State will take a three month winter competition break as the team looks forward to the spring season beginning February 16th as they travel to Miami, Fla. for the Qdoba Collegiate.
