The 49th ranked women's golf team finished the first round in fifth place out of a 19 team field at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, five shots back of the leaders, after firing a 304 (+16) at Oak Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island, S.C. 
The second round of the tournament was suspended due to darkness at 6:30 p.m. with the Panthers still on the course. The second round will resume on Tuesday beginning at 8:45 a.m. with the third round beginning immediately after. 
Iliska Verwey, coming off of her second medalist honor at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, and Claire Starkie led the Panthers with a pair of 75s (+3) to leave them in 15th place at the close of round one. Starkie opened with a 40 and bounced back with a 35 on the back nine. Verwey did the opposite, shooting 35-40. 
Cathrine Madsen shot a 39-37 76 (+4) to finish one stroke behind Starkie and Verwey, good for 23rd place on the leaderboard. 
Anna Scott carded a round of 39-39 78 (+6) to find herself in 39th place overall at the end of the first 18. Sandra Maier rounds out the Georgia State field one shot shy of Scott after shooting 39-40 79 (+7). 
East Tennessee State leads the tournament after round one with a team score of 299 (+11). Mayte Vizcarrondo leads the individual tournament for ETSU as well after her round of 35-35 70 (-2). 
College of Charleston and Arkansas-Little Rock both finished the opening round with scores of 300 (+12). Wisconsin sits in fourth place, one shot better than the Panthers at 303 (+15). 
The field is significantly bunched after one round of play, with ten teams finding themselves with eight shots of the lead.
