Women's Golf Leads after Round One

Georgia State women's golf leads the 20-team competition with a 299 (+15) and two players (Cathrine Madsen and Sandra Maier) in the top five at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at the Greenville Country Club in Greenville, N.C. after round one.

Sandra Maier and Cathrine Madsen each carded 74s (+3) to finish in fifth place in the first round.

Iliska Verwey finished one shot behind her teammates at 75 (+4) for 11th place. Anna Scott came in one shot behind Verwey at 76 (+5) for a 15th place finish after the first 18. Nicole Loesch shot an 83 (+12) to round out the Panthers golfers for the first day. Loesch sits in 70th among the 100 golfers.

Georgia State leads tournament hosts East Carolina by four shots after the Pirates turned in a team score of 303 (+19).

Georgetown and Nebraska are tied for third with team totals of 305 (+21). Miami (Fl.) rounds out the top five after turning in a +25 score.

Coach Cathy Mant's Panthers lead five teams who play CAA golf (William and Mary, James Madison, Xavier, Old Dominion and Richmond).

Belen Buendia of Florida International leads the individual contest with her 72 (+1). Three golfers turned in scorecards of 73 (+2).

The Panthers will take to the course Monday for the second round of play before concluding on Tuesday with the final round.
