ATLANTA?Georgia State University student-athletes enjoyed their best semester ever in the classroom, achieving a school-record 2.94 grade point average for the Fall 2007 as well as a 2.94 cumulative GPA. Individually, 44 Panthers earned Dean's List recognition with at least a 3.5 GPA, while 75 made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. (3.2 GPA or higher).
Fourteen Georgia State teams posted a fall semester GPA of 2.75 or higher, led by the women's tennis team with an impressive 3.70 GPA. Every team member posted at least a 3.2, highlighted by Faculty Scholars (4.0 GPA) Martina Nitkova and Mateja Podgorsek.
“Our most important mission as an athletics department is the education of our student-athletes, and they continue to make us proud,” said Director of Athletics Mary McElroy.
All Georgia State women's teams combined for a 3.09 GPA, including six sports above 3.0, while the men's programs posted a combined GPA of 2.74. Tennis was the top men's sport at 3.04, followed by soccer at 2.93.
Nitkova and Podgorsek were joined by Caitlin Price of women's cross country as Faculty Scholars. A complete list of individual honorees is below.
