Dear Panther Family,
College athletics is at an inflection point. Across the country, universities are adapting to rapid changes in conference alignment, student-athlete support models and the overall economics of competition. At Georgia State University, we view these shifts not just as challenges to manage, but as opportunities to elevate our athletics program and position ourselves to be competitive at the highest levels of our conference.
I've asked our team, in close partnership with Director of Athletics
Charlie Cobb, to develop a refreshed vision that will guide a coordinated effort over the next three to five years to elevate Georgia State Athletics. The timing is perfect as we embark on new fundraising efforts to invest in our student-athletes, our facilities and our community.
This effort is grounded in a simple belief: that excellence in athletics and excellence in academics are not competing priorities, but complementary strengths that define the modern university. In today's environment, winning athletics programs are a powerful driver of institutional visibility and momentum — strengthening our brand, expanding our national reach and contributing meaningfully to the university's overall success.
Looking ahead, our priorities are clear. Not only will we continue building a true "College Town Downtown," but we will also facilitate and enhance the college town experience by creating a more dynamic, connected and engaging environment for student-athletes and fans in Summerhill. Our new baseball stadium will be completed this fall, followed by the next phase of visioning and planning which includes softball and tennis venues, and additional training facilities, including a covered football practice field. Together, these investments will strengthen performance across all programs.
Equally important is our commitment to supporting student-athletes in a rapidly changing environment. Name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities and revenue-sharing models are reshaping what it means to recruit and retain top talent. Georgia State is leaning into this moment by expanding resources, strengthening infrastructure and introducing new leadership roles focused on advancing these efforts. Our goal is simple: to ensure our student-athletes are positioned for success on the field, in the classroom and in life.
We are also guided by clear measures of success: competitive performance, with the goal of consistently competing in the top half of our conference across all sports; growth in fundraising and fan engagement; financial sustainability; organizational strength; and strong student outcomes. Together, these benchmarks hold us accountable to outcomes that drive long-term impact and sustaining a program that is competitive, resilient and aligned with our institutional mission.
Georgia State has always been defined by its ambition — by seeing possibility where others see constraints. That spirit will define the next chapter in our athletics program. But success will not come from leadership alone. It will come from a shared commitment across the Panther Family. Our teams will be as strong as the community that supports them.
I invite you to be part of this journey. Your engagement through attendance, advocacy, partnership and investment will shape what we build together. This is the opportunity to create an athletics program that reflects the energy and momentum of our university and our city.
Together, we will shape the future of Georgia State Athletics — one defined by competitive excellence, academic achievement and a deep and lasting connection to the community we serve.Â
