Panthers Learn from Tennessee Trip

The Georgia State University volleyball team wrapped up its trip to the Blue Raider Bash in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with a loss to Belmont University 3-1 (30-28, 30-24, 28-30, 30-21).  The loss dropped the Panthers to 6-5 on the season.

While the team came away without a win in the three matches over the weekend, Panthers head coach Mike Webster is still very happy with the competitiveness of the team and the things that the team learned during the matches.

"We know what we have to improve on in order to be competitive in the Colonial Athletic Association," said Coach Webster.  "We were competitive in every match.  I'm very happy with the fact that we were able to win a game over the 25th-ranked team in the country (Middle Tennessee State).  We have a lot we need to improve on, but we know what we need to do in order to get where we want to go this season."

Fifth-year senior Ana Paula Ferreira had 12 kills and 13 digs in the loss to Belmont, while Michelle Trimble had a season-high 11 kills.  Senior Amy Lusk fell just short of a double-double with 13 digs and nine kills.

The Panthers outblocked Belmont 14-5, led by Ferreira's seven total blocks (two solo and five assisted).  But the Bruins had 16 more kills than the Panthers, converting at a .247 attack percentage with 65 kills.  14 of Belmont's 26 attack errors were on Panther blocks.

Four Bruins had double-figure kill totals, led by Cat Mundy's 17.

Georgia State will return to action this Friday at the Clemson Classic in Clemson, S.C.  The Panthers will face Appalachian State at 2:00 p.m.
