MURFREESBORO, TN --The Georgia State volleyball team (5-4, 0-0 SBC) needed just four sets to take down Northern Colorado Saturday and sweep the Blue Raider Bash at Alumni Memorial Gym.
Sophia Johnson finished with 13 kills on the day to lead the Panthers offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .316. The Panthers got nine digs from Sigrun Jonsdottir along with 10 blocks from Jayden Eaker and seven rejections from Akira Burt to lead them defensively.
Georgia State (3) vs. Northern Colorado (1)
SET 1 | The Panthers grabbed control on the first point and never trailed to win the first set 25-9. Georgia State led by 17 points at 24-7 before closing out the set. Georgia State also supplemented their offense with seven aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Georgia State built on a set-one win by securing a 25-20 victory in set two. The Panthers scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Georgia State opened its biggest lead of the stanza, five points, to finish off the set, collecting 16 kills along the way.
SET 3 | Georgia State saw its bid for a sweep end when Northern Colorado took set three. The Panthers dropped the first point and never took the lead before falling in the set 25-13.
SET 4 | Georgia State then responded to end the match with a 25-21 fourth-set victory. The Panthers took the lead for good at 13-12 in a set that had just one lead change before the Panthers took over the lead. Georgia State got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Northern Colorado attacks in the stanza.
