Georgia State's
Anna Scott posted a third-round score of one-under par 71 to claim a tie for ninth place as the Georgia State University women's golf team claimed fourth-place overall (+32) at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Classic in Louisville, Ky. on Tuesday.
Georgia State recorded a third-round score of 302 to maintain fourth place as Scott, a former First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association member, recorded three birdies and just two bogeys in a round where the redshirt junior moved from a tie for 26th into the top 10.
“
Anna Scott was amazing today and played a great all around game. To post an under-par 71 after struggling in the first round speaks to her resolve” said Georgia State head coach
Cathy Mant. “She improved her putting throughout the tournament and confirmed she is one of the top players on our team.”
The Panthers posted a three-round score of 896 to finish fourth among 17 teams and behind only 12th-ranked Notre Dame (+14), host Louisville (+17) and Augusta State (+26).
“We shot under 900 as a team for a difficult tournament, which is a great improvement over last year and it's a tribute to the talent of this team,” said Mant. “We had some fatigue issues after playing 36 holes yesterday and play was up and down at times today, but this team showed it has great potential and I'm very excited about this year.”
Sophomore
Cathrine Madsen and freshman
Iliska Verwey each finished in the top-20 places, tied for 13th and 18th respectively in the tournament. Madsen carded three birdies in her final round en route to a three-round score of 223 (+7), while Verwey had four birdies, but posted six bogeys and a double bogey in a final-round 76 (+4). Verwey finished with a total score of 225 (+9).
All five competitive members of the Panthers' team finished in the top 40 of the event, while junior
Claire Starkie tied for 78th competing unattached.
Verwey had an impressively consistent showing in her first collegiate tournament, posting rounds of 75, 74 and 76. Redshirt freshman
Sandra Maier finished the event tied for 32nd in her first collegiate tournament, as she posted strong first and second rounds of 75 and 74, but did not fare as well in her final round and finished with an 80.
The Panthers return to action on Monday, September 24 when Georgia State opens play in the Unlimited Potential Myrtle Beach Classic hosted by Coastal Carolina in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
