Panthers Finish 13th

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. (April 3, 2007) -- The host Georgia State women's golf team improved its standing to finish 13th overall on the final day of the John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate. State ended the day with a team score of 306, which was six shots better than their round one score of 312.

Maryland maintained its round one lead and took home the overall team title with a team score of 585. Memphis' Stacey Tate successfully defended her medalist title from 2006 and took home the honors this year with a 140 two-round total. Tate shot 72 in her final round.

"We had another great tournament with great weather and great golf all around," said head coach Cathy Mant.

For the Panthers, junior Joanna Klatten led the team with a pair of 75s to finish in a tie for 18th. Freshman Cathrine Madsen improved by one-shot shooting a 75 to close and finished tied for 20th. Senior Pamela Torres also improved with a final score of 80 and tied for 72nd-place. Sophomore Karin Dedering also tied for 72nd-place and finished with an 83. Freshman Nicole Loesch made a dramatic improvement from her first round score of 87 and ended the tournament with a 76 to finish in 79th-place.

"I am proud that the team fought back and was able to improve the score by six-strokes," Mant said. "We finished 9-under for the tournament on the par 5s, which tied for the best score on par 5s. Once again, we were the last team to leave the practice tee, and we are still continuing to work towards our goal of capturing another CAA championship."

The Panthers next tournament will be the CAA Championships April 20-22 in Hot Springs, Va.
