Gordon's Goner Not Enough

Junior Luke Gordon's homerun to left helped Georgia State close the gap, but the Panthers baseball team (19-19, 8-8 CAA) gave up three unearned runs in a 6-4 loss to Northeastern this Friday afternoon in Brookline, Mass.

State trailed early as Northeastern (18-9, 9-6) scored three runs in the third inning to take a lead they would not relinquish.  The Panthers came back with a run in the fourth as Charlie Pelt's sacrifice fly scored Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas from third after the junior second baseman tripled.  The Panthers cut the lead to a single run in the fifth as Rochon-Salvas' sacrifice fly scored sophomore Matt Van Horn to make the score 3-2.  But in the bottom of the inning, the Huskies took advantage of two errors and a passed ball to score three unearned runs and take a 6-2 lead.

The Panthers came back in the eighth as Gordon's two-run blast scored Rochon-Salvas in front of him to make it a 6-4 game.  State would get the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning, but couldn't get anything home as the Huskies held on to improve to 9-6 in CAA play.

Drew Grant took the loss after giving up six runs (three earned) in 4.1 innings.  Senior Adam Bowling pitched the remaining 3.2 innings, allowing one of the three runners he inherited to score, but not being charged with any runs himself.  Bowling allowed one hit and struck out four.

Kris Dabrowiecki pitched seven innings in getting the win for the Huskies.  Dabrowiecki improved to 6-1 on the season after allowing three earned runs on seven hits while fanning eight Panthers.  Ryan Quigley pitched the final two innings, but did not earn a save as he entered with Northeastern leading by four and the tying run was not on deck.

The two teams will continue their series tomorrow.  Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
