ATLANTA, GA -- Georgia State broke the game open early on Senior Day, using a big second inning and a strong start from Michael Caruso to defeat Old Dominion 10-4 on Saturday afternoon at the GSU Baseball Complex.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 21-22 overall and 9-11 in Sun Belt play, evening the series at one game apiece.
Georgia State took control in the second inning, scoring four runs on three hits. Austin Killingsworth was hit by a pitch and later scored on a wild pitch before Wills Maginnis delivered an RBI double. John Beverley followed with an RBI single, and Cole Griffith capped the inning with an RBI double to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.
The Panthers added two more runs in the third inning. Brandon Davis reached on an error before Killingsworth singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Adam Haber followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to 6-0.
Old Dominion got on the board in the fifth with a sacrifice fly, but Georgia State responded in the bottom half. Davis doubled and Killingsworth drove him in with an RBI single before Carter Bailey added an RBI single to push the lead to 8-1.
Georgia State added insurance in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, Sam Silas lifted a sacrifice fly before a wild pitch brought home another run to make it 10-1.
Old Dominion scored three runs in the ninth, but the Panthers closed out the 10-4 victory.
Caruso (5-5) turned in a strong outing, tossing 7.0 innings while allowing just one run on three hits and striking out four.
Beverley led the Panthers with three hits and an RBI, while also recording his 30th stolen base of the season, becoming just the third player in program history to reach the 30-steal mark. Killingsworth added two hits, drove in a run, and scored three times, while Haber contributed two hits and an RBI as part of an 11-hit effort.
Georgia State and Old Dominion will meet in the series finale Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex.
