ATLANTA, GA -- Georgia State erased a five-run deficit with a dramatic ninth-inning rally before walking it off in the 10th to secure an 8-7 win over Old Dominion and claim the series Sunday afternoon at the GSU Baseball Complex.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 22-22 overall and 10-11 in Sun Belt play.
Old Dominion jumped out in front early, using a three-run home run in the second inning and another two-run shot in the fourth to build a 6-1 lead. The Monarchs added another run in the sixth to extend the advantage to 7-1.
Georgia State chipped away in the sixth when Adam Haber launched a solo home run to right field, cutting the deficit to 7-2.
The Panthers breakthrough came in the ninth inning. Lucas Grantham reached and moved into scoring position before Wills Maginnis delivered an RBI single. After a walk loaded the bases, Cole Griffith tied the game in dramatic fashion with a grand slam to right-center, evening the score at 7-7.
After Old Dominion was held scoreless in the top of the 10th, Georgia State completed the comeback in the bottom half. With two outs, Maginnis stepped to the plate and delivered a walk-off solo home run to left field to give the Panthers the 8-7 victory.
Maginnis led the Panthers with three hits, including the game-winning home run, while also driving in two runs and scoring three times. Griffith's grand slam accounted for four RBIs, and Haber added two hits, including his home run.
On the mound, Will Bartkoski (4-0) was outstanding in relief, tossing 6.0 innings while allowing just one run and striking out five to earn the win.
Georgia State will begin a nine-game road trip Tuesday with a midweek matchup at Alabama State.
