Softball Falls in Bracket Play

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (03/10/07) ? The Georgia State softball team (16-12) fell to No. 21 Georgia (20-8) in Bracket Play at Messer Sports Complex on Saturday night.  The Panthers will play Western Carolina in the Losers' Bracket at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

 

Georgia led off with two singles by Charvi Greer and Sojourner Moody then Greer scored on a wild pitch and Moody was plated on an RBI single by Melissa Wood for the early 2-0 lead.

 

The Bulldogs scored two more runs in the fourth on an error and a fielder's choice extending the lead to 4-0.  Kellie Middleton scored on a ground out RBI to give Georgia a 5-0 advantage.

 

In the sixth, Greer hit a ground out RBI scoring another run for the Bulldogs.  Alison Horne hit a two-RBI triple in the seventh giving Georgia an 8-0 lead. Kristin Schnake followed with a triple of her own to plate Horne.  The Bulldogs held on for the 9-0 victory.

 

The Panthers only produced two hits from Danielle Roddy (Canton, Ga./Woodstock) and Nikki Bradford (McDonough, Ga./Henry County).

 

Chelsey Morgan (2-6) picked up the loss for the Panthers.  Christie Hamilton (4-3) collected the win for the Bulldogs.
