Georgia State junior Anna Scott claimed third overall with a three-round score of 222 (+3) at the Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational, while the 31st-ranked Panther women's golf team claimed second overall with a combined score of 919 (+43) in Lubbock, Texas.
Every Georgia State golfer finished in the top-35 places among a field of 77 as the team lost only to host Texas Tech, who shot a 900 (+24) on their home course, the Rawls Course, a par-73 6,525-yard layout. The Panthers defeated five teams ranked in the top-100 nationally in the 14 team field, including top-60 ranked Big 12 squads Colorado, Colorado State and Oklahoma.
The finish was the second consecutive second-place overall after the team claimed second in the Unlimited Potential Myrtle Beach Classic. The Panthers are now 37-5-0 on the young season.
“We played another good round today and Anna Scott and Iliska [Verwey] continued their solid play,” said head coach Cathy Mant. “We didn't get a victory, but we still played solid Georgia State golf. This team has tremendous potential and I'm excited to see us continue our play and improve throughout the season.”
In addition to Scott's top-ten finish, freshman Iliska Verwey finished in sixth overall with a total score of 226 (+6), marking the second top-10 finish for each Panther in the season's first three events.
The Panthers return to action on a short turnaround this weekend at the America's Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational in Augusta, where Augusta State will play host on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13-14. Check GeorgiaStateSports.com for updates prior to the event.
