Two Georgia State women's golfers are tied for second as the Panthers sit in second after two rounds of play at the Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Moorehead Invitational in Lubbock, Texas on Monday.
Junior Anna Scott and Freshman Iliska Verwey each carded two-round scores of 148 (+2) on the par-73 6,525-yard Rawls Course to finish tied for second, while the 31st-ranked Panthers team shot a two-round total of 613 to finish the first day of competition four strokes off leader and host Texas Tech University.
“Anna [Scott] and Iliska [Verwey] played really well today, but they have the ability to go lower,” said Georgia State women's golf coach Cathy Mant. “I thought we did very well today battling windy conditions and our goal always is to improve our play and score better the next day. We're pretty tired after a long day, but I anticipate us playing well and bringing home a team and individual championship.”
In addition to the Panthers great play at the top, junior Claire Starkie is tied for 14th among the 77-golfer field after posting a 156 (+10).
The final 18 holes of the 54-hole event will begin Tuesday morning and results can be found at GeorgiaStateSports.com following the event.
