W. Golf Third, Starkie T-Second at Suspension

With second-round play suspended due to darkness, Georgia State junior Claire Starkie rests tied for second at two-over par, while the 29th-ranked Georgia State women's golf team sits in third at 37-over par at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate at Oak Point Golf Club on Kiawah Island, S.C.

Starkie carded a first-round score of 72 (E) and sits two-over par with a score of 61 (+2) through her second round with three holes remaining.

The Panthers shot a first-round team score of 314 and are 11-over par at the suspension of the second round with two to four holes remaining for the State's golfers.

In addition to Starkie's strong performance, two other Panthers sit in the top 25 among a field of 104. Sophomore Cathrine Madsen is currently tied for 19th at nine-over par, while freshman Iliska Verwey is tied for 23rd at 10-over par.

Verwey, who is coming off an individual championship at the American's Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational where State also claimed the team championship, shot a first-round 79 (+7) and is three-over through the second round. Madsen also carded a first-round 79 (+7) and is two-over par in her second round through 14 holes. Verwey has played through 15 holes.

The Panthers currently trail second-place Kansas State by five strokes, but leader East Carolina, who ranks 22nd nationally, has a sizeable advantage of 14 strokes at 23-over par. Starkie sits only one-stroke behind Kansas State's Michelle Regan.

The Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate features a 20-team field with 17 teams ranked in the top-100 nationally and seven teams from the top 60 at Oak Point Golf Club, a par-72, 5,933-yard course.
