SIMPSONVILLE, KY (Sep. 19, 2006) -- The Georgia State women's golf team finished in sixth place at 55-over (303-308-308) after a 20-over final round of the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup Tuesday afternoon. Host school Louisville took the title at 28-over finishing five shots better than second place finisher Augusta State.
"I am disappointed that we didn't win since we had won the Cardinal Cup the last two years, but I was glad to see us fight back after a shaky start this morning," said head coach Cathy Mant.
Freshman Cathrine Madsen turned in a 2-over round to lead the Panthers in the final round. Madsen finished tied for 15th-place with a 12-over for the individual title in just her second collegiate tournament. Junior Joanna Klatten finished 3-over in the final round and 7-over for the tournament. Klatten's 7-over placed her tied for a sixth place finish for the individual title. Sophomore Claire Starkie finished with a 5-over in her final round and 18-over for the tournament. Senior Pam Torres, who stepped in for injured No. 2-golfer Anna Scott, was 12-over in the final round and 24-over for the tournament. Sophomore Karin Dedering finished at 10-over for the day and 28-over for the tournament.
"Cathrine has a great attitude and it was great to see her finish at 2-over today," Mant said. "Joanna said she did not putt well today, but I was pleased to see her still find a way to score when one aspect of her game isn't working. We have about a month off until the next tournament to shore up our weaknesses and get inspired."
The Panthers will be off until Oct. 16-17 when they host the GSU/Pelican Preserve Invitational in Ft. Myers, Fla.
