Panthers, Klatten Lead in Augusta

AUGUSTA (Nov. 6, 2006) -- The Georgia State women's golf team sits in first place with a five-shot lead over host school Augusta State at the America's Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational. The Panthers finished at 15-over par for round 1 with a score of 303.

Junior Joanna Klatten leads the field after shooting a 1-over par 73. Klatten holds a one-shot lead over Dawn-Marie Conaty of Memphis.

“I am thrilled to be leading the tournament,” said head coach Cathy Mant. “It has been a long time coming. I am also excited for Joanna in the individual race. The girls actually played better than their scores reflected. This is a wonderful old golf course, and we had some issues on the greens. We could have posted some better numbers.”

Sophomore Karin Dedering finished at 4-over par after a round of 76 and is tied for sixth-place. Sophomore Claire Starkie and senior Pamela Torres both fired rounds of 5-over 77 and sit tied for eighth-place. Freshman Cathrine Madsen finished with an 11-over round of 83 and is tied for 30th-place.

“Hopefully, we will be bringing back a victory tomorrow,” Mant said.

State will look to hold the top spot in the final round beginning early Tuesday morning.
