KIAWAH, S.C. (Oct. 30, 2006) -- The Georgia State women's golf team battled through a tough morning round and are poised to finish round 2 of the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in eighth place at 31-over par. Play was suspended just after 5:30 p.m. due to darkness and will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The Panthers ended their first round of play in 18th-place after a morning round of 317.
Senior Pamela Torres fired a 5-over round of 77 to lead the team. Sophomore Claire Starkie shot a 7-over 79, while junior Joanna Klatten fired an 8-over 80. Sophomore Karin Dedering finished 9-over with an 81 and freshman Cathrine Madsen finished with a 10-over 82.
State headed back out to course to make up some ground. The Panthers were able to climb to the 8th spot before darkness forced them to suspend the rest of their rounds until Tuesday morning.
Starkie is currently leading the way for the Panthers with a 3-under round with three holes to play. Torres is at even par with four holes left, Dedering is at 2-over with two holes to go, Klatten is 3-over with seven holes left and Madsen sits at 8-over with three holes left.
The Panthers will finish up their second round Tuesday morning and head back out for the final round immediately following the end of their second rounds.
